We set off today for Pakiri Beach about 10am. The trail took us along the roadside over the estuary bridge to Mangawhai village. There’s a few more shops here and we stopped for a coke. It was a cracker day and was very hot.
After our wee refreshment we set off again heading out of Mangawhai when from the back of a house we heard someone yelling out to us. Lol. It was Paul that we meet on the trail the other day. He invited us in for a cuppa on his deck.
We yarned away and he introduced us to Tyler an American guy who he had taken in after his bike broke down cycling in New Zealand. Then, he offered us a beer, then, we just thought we’d stay there the night and have a day off – haha – 45 minutes in, we called it a day.
After chilling out for a while and grabbing some beers for later on in the evening we headed off fishing in hope of catching some fish for dinner. Paul took us out to the most brilliant fishing spot on a rock an hour into the beach section of the Mangawhai Clifftop Walk we had done a couple of days ago. En route we saw a pod of dolphins out at sea playing around with the lifeguards IRB and all the little fishing boats. They were doing heaps of jumps. It was so cool.
At the fishing spot we all had a bit of a fish for an hour or two. Neil caught a cod but we left him behind, he was a bit small. Nevermind. We headed home via the Clifftop Walk and went back to Pauls where we lit a fire, drank beer, and ate cheese 🙂 Tyler made us dinner – yummy pasta and it was great times 🙂
